The negative plates of these batteries are made of lead and carbon and thus combine the advantages of ordinary lead-acid batteries with those of a supercapacitor. The addition of carbon guarantees batteries with higher charge acceptance and therefore better energy efficiency than conventional lead-acid batteries.

In addition, they provide more power, are more resistant to (extremely) low temperatures and guarantee a longer service life. Finally, this latter technology eliminates sulfation better than any other technology, which makes these batteries suitable for applications in prolonged partial discharge (PSOC) such as the storage of solar energy.
